It’s the end of a spooky-yet-charming era at Kings Island. The park has announced that Boo Blasters on Boo Hill will officially close on Monday, September 1, 2025, giving fans just a few more weeks to grab a Boo Blaster, aim for those glowing targets, and take one last shot at capturing the mischievous Boocifer.

A Haunted History

Boo Blasters on Boo Hill opened in 2010, replacing the “Scooby-Doo! and the Haunted Castle” dark ride. Built by Sally Corporation, the ride kept much of the same track layout and interactive shooter concept but swapped out the Hanna-Barbera theme for an original haunted storyline. Guests boarded their four-passenger cars armed with laser blasters, rolling through an indoor world of ghostly graveyards, cobweb-filled corridors, and mischievous monsters.

The mission was simple but addictive: shoot as many lit targets as possible to rack up points and, ultimately, capture the wicked Boocifer before he could cause more mayhem in Boo Hill.

For many guests, Boo Blasters wasn’t just about the high score—it was a respite from the hot Ohio summer, a family-friendly adventure, and a ride that offered a dose of lighthearted spookiness without going full fright mode.

Why Now?

The announcement comes just weeks before Kings Island kicks off its annual Halloween Haunt. While the ride could have fit perfectly into the Halloween lineup, the park has decided to close the attraction before the spooky season begins. The park has not yet announced what will replace Boo Blasters, leaving fans to speculate about what’s next for the building and ride system.

My Take

Personally, I’ll miss the whimsical charm of Boo Blasters. The music, the colorful-yet-creepy sets, and the Sally Corporation magic gave it that blend of silly and spooky that worked so well. Plus, it was a great place to cool off on hot summer days in Mason. For kids (and adults!) who weren’t ready for the full-on intensity of Halloween Haunt, Boo Blasters was the perfect stepping stone.

Ride One Last Time

If you want to get your final score and say goodbye to Boocifer, you have until Labor Day. And if you can’t make it in person, you can watch a full POV of the attraction here:

Whatever comes next, Boo Blasters will be remembered as a beloved mix of fun and fright that entertained guests for well over a decade. Goodbye, Boocifer—you were delightfully wicked while you lasted.
