Harry discovers romance, friendship, and more trouble in Paradise

Episode 6 is a turning point in Resident Alien, blending small-town drama, alien mischief, and escalating stakes. By now, Harry is fully embedded in Paradise, juggling the role of the town doctor, his secret mission to destroy humanity, and his ongoing feud with Max. The episode cleverly highlights just how messy life on Earth can be for an extraterrestrial.

The story begins with Harry attempting to maintain his cover while dealing with the mayor’s political ambitions. The town council asks him to weigh in on local issues, and Harry—who knows nothing about human governance—is forced to fake competence. Watching him awkwardly participate in a town meeting, nodding in all the wrong places and misunderstanding every social cue, is classic Resident Alien comedy.

Meanwhile, Max is relentless. He continues to investigate Harry, determined to expose him, and this episode shows just how far Max is willing to go. Harry’s paranoia grows, leading him to concoct increasingly elaborate and hilarious schemes to “accidentally” neutralize Max without raising suspicion. The absurdity of Harry’s planning—hatching complex alien plots against an elementary-school kid—is both darkly funny and strangely endearing.

Harry also faces pressure from the sheriff, who remains suspicious of his identity. Things reach a fever pitch when the sheriff requests more DNA tests and interviews, forcing Harry to dig deeper into the bizarre cover-up of the real Dr. Vanderspeigle’s death. His attempts to manipulate situations—like using patients to produce “safe” DNA samples—are simultaneously mind-blowing and hysterical. It’s the perfect blend of tension and humor, showcasing Alan Tudyk’s talent for physical comedy and awkward timing.

Amid all this chaos, Harry’s human side continues to emerge. His relationship with Asta deepens, and their interactions show glimpses of genuine connection. She starts to sense that Harry’s behavior isn’t just quirky—it’s secretive and unusual, but she still trusts him, which complicates Harry’s mission even more. The show does a fantastic job of contrasting Harry’s internal alien logic with the messy, emotional world of human relationships.

By the end of “Sexy Beast,” Harry has survived multiple close calls, kept Max at bay (for now), and continued to integrate himself into the lives of the townsfolk. Yet the tension is palpable—he is an alien on a mission, and any misstep could blow his cover and jeopardize everything.

Personal Reaction

This episode had me laughing nonstop, especially watching Harry scramble to “solve” problems while trying to appear human. I think it’s hilarious that he spends so much effort plotting ways to eliminate Max in disguise of an “accident,” even though Max is just a kid. It’s dark humor at its finest, and it never stops being entertaining. I can’t wait to see what he tries next!

I also love how the show continues to play with the murder cover-up of the real Dr. Vanderspeigle. The scenes where Harry tries to manipulate DNA tests or use his patients for his bizarre schemes are mind-blowingly funny. For example, the circumcision DNA gag from Episode 3 still has me cracking up—it’s wild and ridiculous, but perfectly in tone for the series.

And while all this chaos unfolds, the heart of the show shines through in Harry’s relationship with Asta. His interactions with her keep reminding us that he’s slowly being pulled into humanity, even while he insists he’s only here to complete his mission. That contrast—deadly alien logic versus messy human emotion—is exactly what makes Resident Alien so addictive.

Episode 6 raises the stakes, escalates the comedy, and keeps me glued to the screen. I can’t wait to see how Harry navigates the growing tension with Max and the sheriff in the next episode!
