Theme park fans were gearing up for another major addition to Six Flags Magic Mountain’s already stacked coaster lineup, but it looks like patience will be required just a bit longer. The park has officially confirmed that its much-anticipated new roller coaster, originally expected to arrive next year, has been pushed back to a 2027 opening.

The news came via a statement shared with KTLA, where Six Flags explained that the attraction’s complexity played a role in the revised timeline. According to the park, additional time is needed to make sure the coaster meets its standards for innovation, thrills, and safety. While delays are never fun to hear, this kind of transparency usually signals that something ambitious is in the works.

A First of Its Kind for Magic Mountain
Six Flags first teased the new coaster back in 2024, hinting at something truly unique for the park that proudly calls itself the Thrill Capital of the World. Early blueprints labeled the project as a Six Flags Vekoma Coaster, also referred to as a Thrill Glider Roller Coaster.

For coaster fans, those names immediately sparked excitement. Industry insiders believe this points to a Vekoma Thrill Glider, a rumored new model from the Dutch manufacturer. The concept has been described as a suspended, motorbike-style coaster, offering a ride experience that feels very different from traditional sit-down or inverted coasters.

If confirmed, this would mark the first installation of its kind in North America. Similar attractions exist overseas in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and China, but U.S. parks have yet to see this ride style in action.

Why the Delay Might Be Worth It

The new coaster is part of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation’s broader $1 billion investment aimed at enhancing guest experiences across its parks. With that level of investment comes higher expectations, and it’s clear Six Flags wants to ensure this attraction opens fully polished rather than rushed.

Magic Mountain’s last major coaster debut was Wonder Woman Flight of Courage in 2022, so anticipation has only grown stronger as the coaster drought stretches on. While waiting until 2027 is disappointing, the payoff could be something truly game-changing for thrill seekers.

Looney Tunes Land Gets the Spotlight in the Meantime

While coaster fans wait for the next big thrill, Six Flags Magic Mountain isn’t standing still. In 2026, the park is set to roll out a refreshed Looney Tunes-themed area, giving families and younger guests something new to enjoy.

The Looney Tunes upgrade is expected to reimagine the kids’ area with updated attractions, refreshed theming, and familiar characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the rest of the gang. This move fits right in with Six Flags’ recent focus on improving family-friendly experiences alongside its world-class thrill rides.

For many guests, this upgrade will help balance the park’s lineup, offering something new for every age group while the headline coaster continues construction behind the scenes.

Looking Ahead to 2027

Even with the delay, Magic Mountain’s future still looks exciting. A major coaster innovation on the horizon and a Looney Tunes refresh arriving sooner gives fans plenty to talk about over the next few seasons.

If the Thrill Glider delivers on its promise, 2027 could be the year Six Flags Magic Mountain once again proves why it holds the title of the Thrill Capital of the World.
