Whispers on the Skyline: Universal Orlando’s Mystery Coaster Takes Shape

Construction clues, fan theories, and a hopeful Ghostbusters connection at Universal Studios Florida

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the skyline around Universal Studios Florida lately, you’ve probably noticed something new quietly rising behind the scenes. Steel supports, foundation work, and oddly placed structures are starting to tell a story, even though Universal hasn’t officially announced a thing. And honestly, that’s half the fun.

Universal Orlando Resort has mastered the art of surprise, but theme park fans are equally skilled at connecting dots. An unannounced roller coaster under construction is more than enough to send the rumor mill spinning, and right now, speculation is in full gear.

Before diving in, special thanks goes out to @bioreconstruct on X. Many of the construction photos circulating online, and likely some you’ll see embedded in this article, come from his ongoing documentation of theme park development across Central Florida.

For those newer to the fandom, bioreconstruct is widely known for aerial photography and in-depth visual tracking of construction projects at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and beyond. Using publicly accessible airspace and a careful eye for detail, he has become a trusted source for fans, media outlets, and even industry insiders. When something changes on a theme park property, chances are he’s already captured it from above and shared it with context that sparks informed discussion.

Looking at the current construction footprint, there’s plenty to analyze even without official details. The scale suggests a full-sized coaster rather than a small family ride. Support placement and track layout rumors point toward something more dynamic, possibly multi-launch or story-driven, which fits Universal’s modern approach to attractions. The location itself is also interesting, as it sits within reach of established themed areas rather than a completely new land.

That brings us to the big fan hope floating around right now: Ghostbusters.

Universal Studios Florida already has a preexisting Ghostbusters presence in the New York section, including the Ghostbusters Firehouse façade that longtime fans know well. It’s one of those legacy elements that feels like it’s waiting for a modern revival. A Ghostbusters-themed roller coaster could tie directly into that setting, blending nostalgia with the kind of immersive storytelling Universal excels at today.

Imagine a coaster that takes riders on a paranormal chase through New York City, complete with proton pack-style effects, Ecto-inspired ride vehicles, and practical sets mixed with modern screen work. From a thematic standpoint, it makes a lot of sense. Ghostbusters has cross-generational appeal, recent film releases have kept the franchise active, and Universal already has deep roots with the property.

That said, this is still speculation. Universal could just as easily be developing something entirely new, or reviving another classic IP from its massive catalog. There’s also the possibility that this coaster serves as a transitional attraction, designed to refresh an area without fully re-theming it.

As construction continues, more clues will likely surface. Track pieces, show building shapes, and permit filings tend to tell their own story over time. Until then, fans will keep analyzing every photo, every shadow, and every steel beam that appears.

As for me, I’m rooting for Ghostbusters, even if I fully admit I could be wrong. The pieces just seem to line up a little too well. But that’s the fun of being a theme park fan, especially at Universal, where surprises are part of the DNA.

What do you think this mystery coaster will be? A Ghostbusters revival, a brand-new concept, or something completely unexpected? Either way, Universal Orlando’s next big thrill is clearly on the way, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
