When you think of Sesame Place San Diego, it’s all about family fun, colorful parades, and character hugs that make kids light up with joy. But big changes are coming! The park has officially announced that it will transition to a seasonal theme park schedule starting this fall.

So what does that mean for guests? Instead of being open year-round, Sesame Place will now focus on operating during the park’s most popular times of year. According to the announcement, this shift allows them to bring more excitement, attractions, and activities to families while making sure the guest experience is top-notch from arrival to goodbye.

The news came as a surprise to both guests and employees, but leadership has shared that plans are being put in place to make the transition as smooth as possible—and to keep both groups happy. From enhanced seasonal offerings to added benefits for pass holders, the park is aiming to turn this change into something positive for everyone involved.

The last day to catch the park this season will be Sunday, September 21, 2025. After that, Sesame Place San Diego will take a break before reopening in Spring 2026—just in time for another round of fun in the sun.

For those of you holding 2025 Season Passes, don’t worry—you’re not being left out. In fact, the park is sweetening the deal. Every current pass holder will receive a complimentary SeaWorld Fun Card, valid through the rest of 2025. That means unlimited admission to SeaWorld San Diego plus seasonal favorites like Halloween Spooktacular and the dazzling Christmas Celebration. Talk about a win-win!

As a fan, I think this move makes sense. Sesame Place is all about seasonal magic—whether it’s sunny summer splashes or festive holiday fun. Going seasonal should allow the team to really focus on those special times and make them bigger than ever.

On the employee side, the park has expressed that they are working to provide opportunities across the United Parks & Resorts family—such as at SeaWorld San Diego—while also planning for a smooth return once Sesame Place reopens in 2026. It’s a reminder that even in times of change, both the guest and team member experience are at the heart of the decision.

What do you think? Will you be visiting one last time before September 21st, or are you already counting down the days until Sesame Place San Diego reopens in 2026?
