Just days after Muppet*Vision 3D took its final bow and the curtain fell on the rest of Muppets Courtyard, Disney has wasted no time moving forward with its newest transformation: Monstropolis. The long-anticipated Monsters, Inc. land is officially under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Earlier this morning, construction walls were spotted surrounding the former Muppet-themed area. These walls aren’t just hiding progress—they’re also teasing what’s to come. Displayed on them is fresh concept art offering an updated look at the new land that will immerse guests in the world of Monsters, Inc.
What’s Changing from the Original Plan?
Originally announced at last year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Monstropolis was described as a lively district within the Pixar universe. Anchoring the new land is the Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster, a thrilling attraction inspired by the studio’s iconic door vault chase scene.
But the latest concept art reveals several design changes since that first announcement:
- No More Grand Gate: The large entry gate once shown dividing Grand Avenue from Monstropolis has been completely removed, suggesting a more seamless transition between lands.
- Fountain Redesign: The area’s central fountain has been updated and now resembles the former Muppet fountain—only this time, without Miss Piggy.
- New Name for the Theater: The building formerly linked to Muppet*Vision 3D will now be called The Glob, replacing the previously rumored theater name.
- Changes Behind Harryhausen’s: A new area has emerged behind the fan-favorite sushi restaurant façade, potentially indicating expanded theming or future experiences.
- Roller Coaster Courtyard: A new courtyard space has been designed in front of the entrance to the Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster, likely intended to improve guest flow and photo opportunities.

A Land Still Taking Shape
As of now, Disney has not officially announced any revisions to the original Monstropolis plans. However, the updated concept art appears to reflect ongoing design development—giving fans a more refined glimpse of what’s coming soon.
While we wait for further details, one thing is clear: Disney is committed to delivering a fully immersive experience that brings the energy, humor, and charm of Monsters, Inc. to life. Stay tuned as the story of Monstropolis continues to unfold behind the walls of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
