As the Rich Watch for Sport, the Players Face Their Most Fragile Challenge Yet

Episode 7 of Squid Game, titled VIPS, escalates the stakes to a new level of disturbing. The remaining 16 players are thrown into the most terrifying game yet—Glass Stepping Stones—while a new group of powerful, anonymous spectators arrive to watch the chaos unfold firsthand.

This episode pulls back the curtain on who’s really behind the game and reminds us that while the contestants fight for their lives, for some, this is all just entertainment.

The Arrival of the VIPs

With only 16 players left, the games are nearing their final stages—and now, it’s time to put on a show. The mysterious VIPs arrive in full luxury and anonymity, donning golden animal masks and speaking casually about the lives at stake like they’re placing bets at a horse race.

These men are cruel, outlandish, and clearly used to getting what they want. One in particular crosses the line with a disguised guard—revealing just how depraved some of these VIPs are. Their presence proves one thing: this isn’t just a game for the desperate. It’s a spectacle for the rich.

Behind the scenes, The Front Man is feeling the pressure. Everything must be perfect for the VIPs. But his patience is wearing thin, especially as he becomes aware of an intruder lurking in the facility—his own brother, Detective Hwang Jun-ho. With the investigation closing in, security tightens and the stakes off the game floor are just as high as those on it.

The Game: Glass Stepping Stones

The challenge for Episode 7 is pure psychological torture. The players must cross a long glass bridge made up of two panels per row—one made of tempered glass that can support their weight, the other made of regular glass that will shatter under pressure.

It’s a deadly guessing game, and each wrong step means a fall to your death.

Each player must step forward in order, and the earlier your number, the worse your odds. The randomness of number selection the night before becomes suddenly cruel in hindsight. Player 456, Seong Gi-hun, ends up with the final position—seemingly a stroke of luck, since he gets to see the path others take before it’s his turn.

But it only works if players move fast enough—and many hesitate out of fear, wasting precious time.

Deok-su and Mi-nyeo’s Dramatic Exit

The tension builds as the sequence of jumps continues, and we see how pressure fractures not just glass, but people.

Deok-su, the gangster who’s been intimidating players since the start, refuses to move forward when his turn comes. He demands others go first, threatening them with violence. But Mi-nyeo (212), who has clashed with him throughout the game—and famously seduced and betrayed him—steps up.

In a poetic and fiery moment, she grabs him and pulls him down with her, fulfilling her earlier promise: “If you betray me, I’ll kill you.”

While both characters brought drama and unpredictability to the series, their exit feels earned. Their story ends in the most fitting way—loud, chaotic, and unforgiving.

Time Runs Out

As players fall one by one, only a few remain: Gi-hun, Sang-woo, and Sae-byeok. The clock ticks dangerously close to zero. The last surviving glass maker among the players, who seemed like he had a strategy, is betrayed by Sang-woo when time runs out.

Sang-woo pushes him forward—another cold move to ensure his own survival.

Eventually, the remaining trio makes it across just in time—only for the final panel to explode behind them in a burst of shattering glass, sending shards flying and leaving injuries that will carry into the final episodes.

Final Thought:

This episode was wild—from the grotesque, voyeuristic VIPs to the nail-biting terror of the glass bridge. Each moment screamed danger, and every step on that bridge carried not just the weight of survival, but the weight of every decision each player had made up to that point.

Deok-su and Mi-nyeo’s final moment was chaotic justice. Their arc was wild, but their exit was weirdly satisfying.

Gi-hun may have had the best odds in this game, but he’s still carrying the trauma of every fall before him. With just a handful of players left, the game is entering its final act—and it’s clear: only one will leave.
