I’ll admit it—this news totally flew under my radar until I stumbled across it on Threads recently. While this was officially announced back in November 2022, I had no idea a Harry Potter themed land was on its way to Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. As someone who loves themed lands and immersive storytelling, this is incredibly exciting—though I was surprised to learn that the land is expected to be less than one acre in size. To put that in perspective, the combined area of Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando Resort spans around 40 acres. Still, there’s something uniquely magical about this project that deserves attention.

A First for the Region

The upcoming land will be the first Harry Potter-themed experience in the Middle East, made possible through a collaboration between Miral, the powerhouse behind Abu Dhabi’s most ambitious entertainment destinations, and Warner Bros. Discovery. The land will live inside Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest indoor theme park, already home to six richly detailed immersive lands.

While details are still under wraps—no groundbreaking date has been revealed—the creative team promises to bring iconic locations from the Wizarding World to life “in an all-new way.” That teaser alone sparks curiosity: Will we see a new take on familiar locations like the Great Hall or Hogsmeade? Or perhaps something completely original designed exclusively for this space?

Big Potential, Small Footprint

The one-acre footprint has definitely raised eyebrows. Fans used to sprawling experiences like Universal’s Wizarding World might wonder how much magic can fit in such a compact space. But as we’ve seen with other themed micro-experiences—think Tokyo DisneySea’s compact yet stunning rides or Galaxy’s Edge’s dense detail—size doesn’t always limit storytelling.

Miral’s Chairman, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, emphasizes the project’s broader ambition, calling it “a spellbinding first for the region” and part of the ongoing effort to position Yas Island as a global destination for leisure and entertainment. And according to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Pam Lifford, this land will complement—not compete with—the existing Wizarding World offerings in Universal parks.

A Growing Magical Universe

From a business perspective, this move makes sense. The Harry Potter franchise remains a cultural juggernaut, with over 600 million books sold and a film series beloved by fans across generations. And with expansions already underway in other parts of the world, bringing the magic to the Middle East helps broaden the brand’s global reach.

Whether this new land ends up being a walkthrough experience, a boutique attraction, or something more, it’s a reminder that the Wizarding World isn’t slowing down. And even though the land may be small in size, the promise of more Potter magic is big news for fans worldwide.

Stay tuned—there’s more to this story yet to be revealed.
