Roll Credits: August 2025 Edition

Welcome Back

Welcome to the second edition of Roll Credit! Life got a little busy in August, so my watchlist wasn’t as packed as I hoped. Between my kids heading back to school and work being hectic, I only made it through a couple of films, a few series, and nearly two more seasons of shows I’ve been chipping away at.

That said, what I did manage to watch was worth it. Both films I caught were strong recommendations, and the shows kept me entertained on those late nights when I needed a break. September should bring a more balanced schedule (outside of Halloween prep), which means more movies and series to dive into. Let’s roll the credits!

Monthly Movie Roundup

Final Destination: Bloodlines – This was everything I wanted in a new Final Destination film. The creative death scenes, practical effects, and suspenseful atmosphere nailed the franchise’s formula. Tony Todd’s return was the cherry on top, and I deeply respect how the filmmakers chose not to kill off his character given his real health challenges. That decision gave the film—and Todd’s legacy—more weight. Another strong entry that proves once again: cheating death only delays the inevitable.

Last Breath (2025) – Based on a true story, this one gripped me even though it felt like it could have gone a bit deeper with its characters. The tension was real, the stakes were high, and the storytelling kept me invested. It’s not perfect, but still a solid film I’d recommend adding to your list if you like survival-driven stories.

Binge Watch Report

I surprised myself this month by adding Resident Alien on a whim. I kept seeing clips pop up online that made me laugh, so I gave it a shot—and I loved it. The mix of quirky humor, small-town oddities, and Alan Tudyk’s performance made Season 1 a treat. With four seasons out, I’ve got plenty more to enjoy, and I’ll be posting recaps along the way.

I also dug deeper into Game of Thrones Season 2, where tensions are boiling and war is looming. The plot feels tighter, the characters are scheming harder, and yes—I’m counting down the episodes until King Joffrey finally gets what’s coming. Only three episodes left before I jump into Season 3.

Twisted Metal just wrapped Season 2, so I rewatched Season 1 to refresh myself. I’m glad I did, because I’m fully caught up and ready to dive into the new season. Expect a recap of both seasons soon.

Here’s a curveball: I’ve always been more of a Star Wars fan and used to poke fun at the Star Trek side of things. But a friend pushed me to try Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and I have to admit—I’m enjoying it. At the time of writing, I’m on Episode 8 of Season 1, and I love how it modernizes the franchise while setting up events before The Next Generation.

Finally, I wrapped up Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3. I’ll save my full thoughts for a dedicated post, but I’ll say this—it kept me on edge the whole way. A spinoff could be interesting, but honestly, this series might be best left as-is. It’s already a standout.

Trailer Talk: Upcoming Anticipation

The standout trailer I caught last month was for Return to Silent Hill. It adapts the story of Silent Hill 2 and looks every bit as unsettling as the game. James Sunderland returns to the eerie town after receiving a letter from his late wife, only to face grotesque monsters, haunting figures, and the weight of his guilt. The imagery is chilling, and the story feels like a true psychological horror ride. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

What’s On My Watchlist

Here’s a look at what’s next on my viewing list. Will I get to them all? That depends on life—but they’re in the queue.

  • Game of Thrones: Season 3

  • Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – Season 2

  • Resident Alien – Season 2
  • Twisted Metal: Season 2*

  • Wednesday

Fade to Black (Closing Notes)

I had hoped to bring you more recaps this month, but sometimes life takes the front seat—and that’s okay. September looks promising, especially with Halloween season kicking off, which means plenty of spooky content is on deck.

Also, if you haven’t noticed, the Film & Streaming homepage got a fresh new look. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m excited about where it’s headed. The Cinematic Universe section will soon share that same updated vibe.

Thanks for stopping by for another edition of Roll Credit! As always, I’d love to hear your movie or series recommendations—drop them my way, and they might just end up in next month’s roundup.
