Episode 7, The Green Glow, brings Harry closer than ever to recovering the alien device he lost when he crash-landed on Earth. The episode balances the sci-fi mystery with plenty of laughs, as Harry’s mission collides head-on with his complicated double life as Paradise’s resident doctor.

The story kicks off with Harry detecting a mysterious green glow deep in the mountains—a signal that points to the location of his missing device. For Harry, this is a major breakthrough. If he can find the device, he can finally complete his mission to wipe out humanity. But nothing in Paradise is ever simple, and his journey to recover it is full of obstacles.

Back in town, Harry continues his day-to-day juggling act. The sheriff is still suspicious about Dr. Sam Hodges’ death, pushing for answers and circling closer to Harry’s lies. To keep suspicion off himself, Harry pulls more ridiculous tricks to manipulate the situation, including finding creative ways to dodge DNA testing and deflect the sheriff’s questions. His schemes are both absurd and ingenious, keeping him one step ahead—though just barely.

Meanwhile, Max refuses to back down. He’s still determined to prove that Harry is an alien, and his persistence drives Harry wild. Harry spends way too much time brainstorming “accidents” that could take Max out of the picture for good. The comedy of watching an alien genius obsess over how to eliminate a stubborn elementary-school kid is dark, ridiculous, and one of the funniest ongoing threads of the season.

The emotional center of the episode once again comes from Asta. She shares more of her personal history with Harry, especially around her complicated family dynamics, and Harry is pulled deeper into the messy, emotional world of humans. It’s clear he’s developing genuine care for her, even though he insists (to himself) that his mission hasn’t changed. The show continues to use their friendship as a way to chip away at Harry’s alien detachment.

By the end of The Green Glow, Harry edges closer to finding his device, but Max and the sheriff both remain serious problems. The tension is higher than ever: Harry is so close to reclaiming his mission, yet so tangled up in the lives of Paradise’s people that you can’t help but wonder if he’ll even be able to go through with it.

Personal Reaction

This episode was a blast. I think it’s hilarious that Harry still spends so much time plotting “accidents” for Max, even though Max is just a kid. The fact that he’s an alien with the power to wipe out the human race, yet he’s obsessed with taking down one small boy, never stops being funny. Their rivalry is easily my favorite part of the series so far.

I also loved how the murder cover-up of the real Dr. Vanderspeigle continues to weave into the plot. The sheriff’s suspicions, combined with Harry’s desperate DNA tricks (I’m still not over the baby circumcision gag from earlier episodes), make for some of the funniest and most outrageous storylines I’ve seen on TV in a while.

What really stood out in this episode, though, was the balance between the sci-fi element—the green glow and Harry’s mission—and the emotional beats with Asta. Every time Harry interacts with her, you can see him softening, even though he won’t admit it. That conflict between his alien duty and his growing humanity is what keeps me glued to the show.

With Harry finally closing in on his device, I cannot wait to see how Episode 8 ramps things up!
