If you’re planning an upcoming trip to Universal Orlando Resort, now is the perfect time to take a look at the refurbishment calendar. Temporary closures are part of theme park life, and while they can sometimes change your touring plans, they usually mean improvements, upgrades, and long-term care for the attractions we love. A little preparation now can go a long way toward a smoother trip later.

Before we dig into the details and speculation, here’s a helpful overview of what’s currently scheduled.

Park Attraction / Location Closure Dates
Universal Epic Universe None No closures scheduled at this time
Universal Islands of Adventure Jurassic Park River Adventure January 5, 2026 – November 19, 2026
Hogwarts Express February 9 – February 23, 2026
Universal Studios Florida Revenge of the Mummy January 15 – January 21, 2026
Finnegan’s Bar & Grill January 12, 2025 – Winter 2026
Hogwarts Express February 9 – February 23, 2026
Universal Volcano Bay Seasonal Closure October 26, 2026 – On or before March 24, 2027

Universal Epic Universe

Starting with some good news, there are no temporary closures scheduled at this time for Universal Epic Universe. As the newest park at the resort, everything is still fresh, new, and operating at full capacity.

Universal Islands of Adventure

Jurassic Park River Adventure will be closed from January 5, 2026 through November 19, 2026, and that is a long closure by any standard. It’s going to be interesting to see what Universal is doing behind the scenes during this extended downtime. I’m really hoping this means meaningful upgrades and improved maintenance. This ride has so much potential, and expanding the possibilities while keeping its classic identity intact would be a big win.

Hogwarts Express will also be unavailable from February 9 through February 23, 2026. This means park-to-park travel between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida will require a bit more walking and planning during that window.

Universal Studios Florida

Revenge of the Mummy will be down briefly from January 15 through January 21, 2026. This feels like standard maintenance, which is reassuring for a high-energy attraction that fans expect to be running smoothly.

Finnegan’s Bar & Grill is scheduled to close from January 12, 2025 through Winter 2026. Universal hasn’t shared why this location will be closed for such a long period, which naturally fuels speculation. What really stands out is that it will be closed during Halloween Horror Nights 35, making this one of the more intriguing refurbishments on the list.

Hogwarts Express will also be closed on this side from February 9 through February 23, 2026, matching the closure at Islands of Adventure.

Universal Volcano Bay

There are no immediate attraction refurbishments scheduled for Volcano Bay, but it’s important to remember that the water park does close on select dates during the fall and winter season.

Looking further ahead, Universal Volcano Bay will begin a seasonal closure on October 26, 2026, with a planned reopening on or before March 24, 2027. If your trip falls during that timeframe, checking the operating calendar ahead of time is a must.

A Look Toward the Future: Lost Continent Rumors

No refurbishment conversation feels complete without talking about the Lost Continent. We all know this land is expected to transform into something else eventually. The name may remain the same or change entirely, but Mythos appears to be safe.

The latest rumors suggest the Lost Continent could become the Forbidden Forest as an expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Given how popular the Harry Potter areas are, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Universal lean into that success even more.

Another rumor floating around points to a possible Zelda-themed land, but I highly doubt this direction. It’s fun to imagine, though, and that speculation is part of what makes being a theme park fan so enjoyable.

Final Thoughts

Refurbishments can shift plans, but they’re also a sign that Universal is investing in the future of its attractions and experiences. Knowing what’s closed ahead of time helps you plan smarter, manage expectations, and maybe even discover something new along the way. Between long-term projects like Jurassic Park River Adventure and mystery closures like Finnegan’s, the next few years at Universal Orlando are shaping up to be very interesting.
