Happy New Year and welcome to the first Theme Park Spot Talk of 2026. This edition feels a little special. Not only does it mark the start of a new year, but it also sets the tone for what I hope will be a more robust and content-packed weekly series. The goal this year is simple: more updates, more features, and more reasons to check in each week. As always, feedback is welcome because this series continues to grow with you.

We’re already seeing some exciting things fall into place for 2026, from major international openings to familiar events returning stateside. Let’s jump right into it.

Six Flags Qiddiya City has officially opened, and it immediately positions itself as one of the most ambitious theme park projects ever attempted. This isn’t just another regional park expansion. It’s a statement piece for the global theme park industry, designed to push scale, speed, and spectacle to a level we haven’t seen before.

With record-breaking attractions, including Falcon’s Flight, Qiddiya City feels like the start of a new era for Six Flags on the world stage. It’s exciting to see the brand stretch beyond North America in such a bold way, and it will be fascinating to watch how this park influences future coaster and attraction design worldwide.

As we head into the busy early months of 2026, Universal Orlando Resort has a handful of scheduled refurbishments that guests should keep on their radar. These updates are a normal part of keeping attractions running smoothly, but they can impact ride availability depending on when you visit. From routine maintenance to short-term closures, it’s always smart to double-check the refurbishment calendar before finalizing park plans.

If you’re planning a trip soon, a little preparation can go a long way. Knowing which attractions may be temporarily offline helps set expectations and allows you to shift priorities to shows, seasonal offerings, or attractions you might normally skip. I’ll continue to track and update refurbishment news so you can plan your Universal visit with fewer surprises and more time enjoying the parks.

Diving Deeper Into SEAQuest: Legends of the Deep

SEAQuest: Legends of the Deep at SeaWorld Orlando continues to shape up as one of the most intriguing new attractions on the horizon. While details are still limited, what we do know suggests a heavily themed, story-driven experience that leans into exploration, mythology, and marine wonder.

As someone who lives close enough to visit SeaWorld regularly, this is one of the 2026 additions I’m personally most excited about. SeaWorld has been quietly improving its attraction lineup, and SEAQuest feels like another step toward deeper immersion and broader family appeal.

Rock the Universe Returns for 2026

Rock the Universe is officially back for 2026, bringing its familiar mix of live Christian music, late-night park access, and coaster rides under the stars to Universal Studios Florida. For many fans, this event is as much about the atmosphere as it is the lineup, blending faith, fellowship, and thrills into one packed weekend.

Even after all these years, Rock the Universe continues to be one of Universal’s most unique special events. It’s a reminder that theme parks can be gathering places for shared experiences that go far beyond rides alone.

Whispers on the Skyline at Universal Orlando

Construction continues on Universal Orlando’s unannounced coaster, and with each passing week, the structure becomes harder to ignore. Sightlines are changing, track pieces are rising, and speculation is running wild among fans trying to connect the dots.

While Universal remains tight-lipped, the scale alone suggests something significant is coming. Mystery projects like this are part of what makes following theme park development so fun, watching a ride slowly reveal itself long before an official announcement ever arrives.

Outlaw Run: A Moment Frozen in Time

Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City made history as the first wooden roller coaster to feature multiple inversions. It boasts three inversions, including its signature double barrel roll, along with a steep 81-degree first drop and top speeds reaching 68 mph. When it debuted, it completely redefined what a wooden coaster could do.

Rollercoasterworklife captured a fantastic shot of Outlaw Run diving down its first drop shortly after completion, perfectly showcasing the aggression and beauty of this groundbreaking coaster.

Falcon's Flight @ Six Flags Qiddiya City

This week’s video of the week is the Falcon’s Flight POV from Six Flags Qiddiya City, and it’s nothing short of jaw-dropping. Falcon’s Flight holds the records for tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster in the world, reaching speeds of up to 250 km/h and towering at nearly 195 meters.

The ride combines massive airtime moments, extreme speed, and sweeping transitions across Qiddiya City’s terrain. Watching the POV feels less like a traditional coaster and more like a high-speed aerial tour, setting a new benchmark for what modern roller coasters can achieve.

Trip Report: Magic Kingdom

A brand-new Magic Kingdom trip report is now live, recapping a fun-filled day in the park. From classic attractions to atmosphere moments that remind you why Magic Kingdom remains special, this visit had a little bit of everything.

If you’re planning a visit soon or just enjoy reading trip reports to fuel your theme park daydreams, this one’s worth checking out.

Upcoming Refurbishment / Closure

If there’s an event you think should be added, feel free to reach out and let me know.

Ongoing Refurbishment

Finnegan’s Bar & Grill at Universal Studios Florida has been closed since January 12, 2025, with reopening planned sometime in Winter 2026. This long-term refurbishment indicates a significant overhaul, likely including interior redesigns, kitchen upgrades, and overall modernization of the dining space. While its absence has been noticeable for regular visitors, the extended timeline hints at a refreshed experience rather than a simple facelift.

Upcoming Refurbishment

Jurassic Park River Adventure at Universal’s Islands of Adventure will enter a lengthy refurbishment beginning January 5, 2026, and is scheduled to reopen on November 19, 2026. This extended closure points to more than routine maintenance, likely involving major ride system work, show scene upgrades, and long-term infrastructure improvements. With its complex animatronics, water systems, and iconic finale, this downtime suggests Universal is investing heavily in keeping the attraction reliable and impressive for years to come.

Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida is scheduled for a brief refurbishment from January 15 through January 21, 2026. This short closure suggests routine coaster and show maintenance, including system inspections and effects fine-tuning. These quick touch-ups are common for high-intensity attractions and help ensure the ride continues delivering its signature thrills without unexpected downtime later in the year.

The Hogwarts Express will be temporarily unavailable at Universal’s Islands of Adventure from February 9 through February 23, 2026. Because the train serves as a transportation link between the two theme parks, this short closure is likely focused on track inspections, vehicle servicing, and station maintenance. Guests with Park-to-Park tickets will still be able to walk between parks, but the immersive train journey itself will be off the rails for about two weeks.

Upcoming Event

Upcoming Events

The magic hits the pavement as Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend returns, bringing runners from all over the world together for an unforgettable few days of early mornings, big finishes, and character-filled miles. Whether you’re tackling the full marathon, cheering on friends and family, or just soaking in the electric atmosphere around the resorts, this event adds a unique energy to property that you can feel all weekend long. Expect road closures, packed buses, and a lot of celebratory vibes, especially around the finish areas.

EPCOT shifts into creative mode as the International Festival of the Arts kicks off, blending visual art, live performances, and some of the most colorful food offerings of the year. This festival is a favorite for guests who enjoy taking things at a slower pace, browsing artist booths, watching sidewalk chalk come to life, and sampling small plates that look almost too good to eat. It’s a great time to visit EPCOT if you love creativity around every corner. Placeholder: Insert festival artwork or food booth image here.

Universal Studios Florida turns up the volume with Rock the Universe, a high-energy weekend that mixes live Christian music performances with late-night access to popular attractions. Fans can expect a lively concert atmosphere, extended park hours, and a crowd that’s there to sing, ride, and celebrate all night long. Even if you’re not attending the concerts, this event can impact wait times and park flow, making it something to keep on your radar when planning a visit.
