There are days when being a Star Wars fan just hits different—and this was one of them.
The CoasterMedia Lil Crew got the chance to experience the LEGO SMART Play Star Wars event during its limited-time stop near Walt Disney World, and it felt like stepping straight into the galaxy… just with a lot more bricks and a whole lot of “pew pew.”
Set up in the parking lot of a Walmart Supercenter, this pop-up experience transformed an everyday location into something pretty unforgettable. Guests scanned into a virtual queue before entering, giving families time to browse LEGO sets while they waited—which honestly felt like part of the fun.
The Choice: Light Side or Dark Side
When it was our turn, we were faced with a very important decision: Light Side or Dark Side.
We didn’t hesitate—we did both.
The Dark Side
We ended up going Dark Side first… and honestly, it set the tone.
There’s just something about stepping straight into the Death Star, hearing Emperor Palpatine call the shots, and jumping right into a lightsaber showdown that hits a little harder. The atmosphere feels more intense, the effects pop more, and the whole experience leans into that classic Star Wars drama.
Guests take on the roles of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader as the SMART Bricks bring the duel to life with glowing effects and those unmistakable saber sounds. We may have played as Luke… and we may have lost. The Emperor was pleased.
The Light Side
Then we circled back and did the Light Side—and don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome.
You enter a giant LEGO brick (yes, really) and step into a transport pod before jumping through hyperspace to Tatooine and the Death Star. Along the way, interactive moments pull guests into the action.
Our crew found themselves in a cantina-style showdown featuring Greedo and Obi-Wan Kenobi battling it out in a surprisingly hilarious musical moment.
The Light Side also delivers on the space battles, with X-Wings and TIE Fighters lighting up, reacting to hits, and firing off those iconic sound effects that instantly bring you back to the films.
But after starting with the Dark Side, it felt like we already saw the galaxy at full power.
If we had to pick? The Dark Side wins for us.
That said, both paths are absolutely worth doing. Each side has its own standout moments, and no matter what you choose first, you’ll probably want to go back and try the other one anyway.
The LEGO Arena
After the show portion, everyone heads into the LEGO Arena, which is where things really shine for builders.
This is where you get hands-on with the new SMART Play sets. The concept is simple but clever—shake the SMART Brick to “wake it up,” snap it onto a SMART Tag, and suddenly your build reacts with lights, motion, and sound.
Add characters like R2-D2 and the whole experience becomes even more dynamic, with unique sounds and interactions depending on who’s in your build.

The sets themselves range from Luke’s X-Wing to Vader’s TIE Fighter, the Mos Eisley Cantina, and even the Millennium Falcon. They’re designed for younger builders, but plenty of adults were just as locked in as the kids.
Sensory-Friendly Option
One thing worth noting: the main experience includes flashing lights and loud sounds, but there’s also a sensory-friendly option where you can skip the immersive show and go straight into the hands-on play area.
Planning Your Visit
The Central Florida stop for LEGO SMART Play ran April 18–19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., making it a quick, limited-time experience for local fans.
If you missed it, the next stop is heading to Utah, with the event popping up at a Walmart Supercenter on April 25–26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
From there, LEGO SMART Play is expected to visit more cities, so this likely won’t be your last chance to jump into the galaxy.
Final Thoughts

Before you head out, don’t skip the photo op with C-3PO in LEGO form—it’s a fun little cap to the experience.
The kids had an absolute blast, and honestly, this is one of those easy, fun, quick trips that’s totally worth squeezing into your day.
Bottom line? LEGO didn’t just make new sets—they built an experience around them. And for Star Wars fans, it’s a fun reminder that the galaxy is always better when you can play in it.
