Six Flags Fiesta Texas has officially unveiled Werewolf Gorge, a brand-new family launch coaster that promises to blend storytelling, thrills, and accessibility into one unforgettable experience.

Opening in 2027 as part of the park’s 35th anniversary celebration, the attraction is already making headlines thanks to its impressive statistics and unique ride system. Built by Vekoma, Werewolf Gorge will take guests on a supernatural adventure through a mysterious Texas quarry haunted by an ancient werewolf curse.

Ride Statistics

Before diving into the story, let’s take a look at the numbers behind this ambitious new attraction.

  • Manufacturer: Vekoma
  • Attraction Type: Family Launch Coaster
  • Opening Year: 2027
  • Track Length: 4,120 feet
  • Ride Duration: 2 minutes, 36 seconds

  • Top Speed: 45 mph
  • Height Requirement: 39 inches
  • Floater Airtime Moments: 32

  • Elevation Change: 85 feet

When it opens, Werewolf Gorge will become the world’s longest family launch coaster as well as the longest roller coaster in Six Flags Fiesta Texas history.

A Story Hidden Within the Quarry

Unlike many regional theme park coasters that focus primarily on thrills, Werewolf Gorge puts a strong emphasis on storytelling.

Guests will board a mining train for what appears to be a simple quarry tour. However, the journey quickly goes wrong as riders discover a centuries-old werewolf curse lurking within the canyon walls.

Throughout the experience, guests will race through dense forests, blast through quarry passages, and narrowly avoid encounters with massive werewolf figures hidden throughout the attraction.

The adventure culminates inside a crumbling quarry structure where glowing eyes and mysterious creatures lurk in the shadows.

A New Era of Theming for Six Flags?

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this announcement isn’t the coaster itself—it’s the level of immersion being added to the experience.

The attraction introduces guests to Jasper Bunyan, an eccentric entrepreneur who has transformed the abandoned quarry into a roadside cryptid attraction.

The themed experience begins long before riders board the train. Guests will explore locations including the Museum of Cryptids and the Werewolf Museum while waiting in line, helping establish the attraction’s unique story world.

For years, many Six Flags attractions have relied on minimal theming compared to destination parks. Werewolf Gorge appears to signal a continued shift toward more immersive experiences, something many fans have been hoping to see.

Big Bear Mountain and Epic Universe Comparisons

Coaster enthusiasts have already started making comparisons to a couple of notable attractions.

Since Werewolf Gorge is being manufactured by Vekoma, many fans immediately pointed to Big Bear Mountain at Dollywood. Both attractions are family-focused launch coasters designed to offer thrills without being overly intense.

Others have compared the project to Curse of the Werewolf at Universal Epic Universe due to the shared werewolf theme and emphasis on storytelling.

While the rides themselves appear very different, it’s hard not to notice how Epic Universe has helped raise expectations across the industry. More parks seem willing to invest in immersive environments and narrative-driven attractions rather than simply building another roller coaster.

Personally, I love seeing Six Flags step up their game. It feels like the company is moving beyond the days of simple themed signs and cardboard cutouts and embracing more complete storytelling experiences. That’s a win for everyone.

A Dramatic Full Moon Reveal

The attraction was officially announced during a special evening event on May 30, 2026.

In a fitting tribute to the coaster’s supernatural theme, Six Flags timed the reveal under a rare blue full moon. Guests attending the event experienced a live presentation inspired by the attraction’s storyline before witnessing a drone show that formed the Werewolf Gorge logo in the night sky.

It was a creative way to introduce the attraction and helped set the tone for the story guests will experience when the coaster opens.

Final Thoughts

Werewolf Gorge looks like one of the most exciting family coaster projects currently under construction.

The combination of four launches, extensive airtime, immersive storytelling, and a family-friendly height requirement gives the attraction broad appeal. More importantly, it shows that Six Flags Fiesta Texas continues to push boundaries and experiment with new ideas.

I haven’t had the chance to visit Epic Universe yet, but attractions like Werewolf Gorge have me excited about the future of themed entertainment. If this coaster delivers on its promises, it could become one of the standout family attractions in North America.

Werewolf Gorge is scheduled to open at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in 2027.
