The beloved Dutch theme park has officially announced a brand-new attraction—and it’s going to send you plunging into the depths of its rich storytelling once again. Nestled next to the ever-popular dive coaster Baron 1898, this new free fall family ride will deepen the lore and immerse guests further into the chilling tale of the mysterious Baron and his ghostly miners.
Announced by Koen Sanders, Director of Product, Market & Image, the upcoming attraction is described as a smaller-scale, family-friendly thrill that enhances both capacity and storytelling in the area surrounding Baron 1898. While it’s not a towering thrill machine, this free fall ride is designed to pack narrative punch and visual flair—something Efteling has mastered like no other.
“This new family attraction seamlessly complements the area around Baron 1898,” said Sanders. “It is deliberately smaller in scale and… fully immerse[s] our guests in the story of the Baron and the Wailing Women.”
That’s right—the Wailing Women, known from the Baron’s haunting legend, will once again take center stage, this time guiding (or perhaps warning?) the park’s newest recruits: the chimney sweepers. That’s you! In this fresh storyline by Karel Willemen, guests step into the soot-streaked shoes of chimney sweepers working for the Baron, adding a new layer of grit and ghostly mystery to the already atmospheric setting.
With a planned throughput of 600 guests per hour, this new addition aims to be both efficient and immersive, offering more families the chance to experience the eerie charm of Efteling’s mining world. While construction won’t begin until after summer 2025, anticipation is already rising faster than a hoist in a haunted shaft.
