A brand-new journey into the Wizarding World is on the horizon. Max has officially ordered the first-ever Harry Potter scripted television series, bringing J.K. Rowling’s beloved books to life in an ambitious new format. The announcement was made during Warner Bros. Discovery’s unveiling of the Max streaming service on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles.
The upcoming Max Original series is set to be a faithful adaptation of Rowling’s seven-book saga, with each season exploring one book in immersive, long-form storytelling. Produced by Warner Bros. Television, the series promises the same level of “epic craft, love, and care” that has defined the global Harry Potter franchise for over two decades.
A Decade of Hogwarts Awaits
Rather than retelling the story with familiar faces, Max’s adaptation will feature an entirely new cast, ushering in a fresh generation of fans. The creative team is focused on honoring the books’ original spirit while expanding the world for a modern audience. Each season will remain true to its respective book, giving ample space to explore rich details and storylines previously left untouched in film adaptations.
“The Harry Potter books are a cultural phenomenon,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content. “In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all these years.”
Rowling Returns as Executive Producer
Author J.K. Rowling will return to the world she created, serving as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts, with David Heyman — who produced all eight original films — currently in talks to join the project.
“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me,” Rowling said. “I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.”
A Magical Legacy Continues
This television series will join the expansive Wizarding World franchise, which includes the eight original Harry Potter films, the Fantastic Beasts trilogy, the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, mobile and console games, theme park attractions, studio tours, and flagship retail experiences.
While the original films will remain central to the Harry Potter legacy and continue streaming globally, Max’s new series is poised to breathe new life into the magical universe — one spellbinding season at a time.
