Twisted Metal | S1:E1 Recap – WLUDRV

A wild first ride into the chaos of the open road

The engines roar to life in the debut episode of Twisted Metal, a wild, action-packed ride that wastes no time throwing viewers straight into its chaotic, post-apocalyptic world. Titled “WLUDRV,” the premiere introduces us to John Doe, a fast-talking delivery driver with no memory of his past, played with the right mix of humor and grit by Anthony Mackie.

Life Behind the Wheel

We first meet John as he speeds through a desolate wasteland where cities are fortified havens and the open road is filled with danger. As a “milkman” courier, John takes on high-risk deliveries between settlements, armed with sharp wit and an even sharper sense of survival. His life is equal parts lonely and thrilling, where every job comes with the promise of danger and reward.

It’s not long before we’re shown just how ruthless this world can be. From shootouts to high-speed chases, John’s skills behind the wheel make him more than just a delivery man—he’s a survivor. Yet beneath the wisecracks, you can sense a restlessness, a yearning for something beyond the endless asphalt.

A Dangerous Proposal

John’s journey takes a turn when he’s offered a once-in-a-lifetime deal: deliver a mysterious package and, in return, gain a permanent home in a safe, walled-off city. For someone who has lived most of his life on the move, this offer is as tempting as it is risky. It sets the stage for the larger adventure that will drive the rest of the season.

Enter Sweet Tooth

And then there’s the introduction of one of the franchise’s most iconic figures—Sweet Tooth, the clown-faced terror behind the wheel of an ice cream truck. With his grotesque humor and violent flair, Sweet Tooth adds a new layer of madness to John’s world, reminding viewers that not every enemy on the road is just looking for supplies—some simply want to watch the world burn.

First Impressions

As a premiere, “WLUDRV” balances world-building with fast-paced action and a surprising dose of comedy. It leans into the absurdity of its video game roots while carving out its own identity as a post-apocalyptic action series. The mix of quirky humor, gritty danger, and larger-than-life characters makes for a strong introduction.

Personal Reaction

I had a blast with this episode. Right from the start, it sets a tone that’s part Mad Max, part dark comedy, and part chaotic road trip. Anthony Mackie’s charm keeps John Doe from being just another hardened survivor—you can’t help but root for him, even when he’s cracking jokes at the worst possible time.

And Sweet Tooth? Absolutely unhinged in the best way. The character feels ripped right out of the games but with even more disturbing flair. I can already tell he’s going to be the kind of villain who steals every scene he’s in.

By the end, I was hooked. The show feels like it’s revving up for a season full of over-the-top chases, violent humor, and unpredictable twists. If Episode 1 is any indication, this ride is going to be insane—and I can’t wait to buckle in for the rest.
