Dark Universe Is Expanding! New Indoor Thrill Coaster Coming to Universal Epic Universe

Universal Orlando has officially confirmed another monstrous addition to Epic Universe. After weeks of construction speculation, a mysterious indoor roller coaster is on the way, and I'm still hoping the Creature from the Black Lagoon gets his moment.

Something is stirring behind Dark Universe, and this time, Universal Orlando is finally giving us some answers!

On November 5, 2026, Universal Orlando Resort officially announced that an all-new indoor thrill coaster is coming to Dark Universe at Universal Epic Universe. The announcement confirms that the mysterious construction activity behind Darkmoor is connected to a new attraction inspired by the legendary Universal Monsters.

And here’s what makes this announcement even more exciting for me. Just one month ago, I was already writing about the construction happening behind Dark Universe and sharing my personal wishlist for what Universal could build next.

Now we finally know that another roller coaster is on the way!

Of course, Universal is still keeping plenty of secrets about the attraction itself. But between the official teaser, recent aerial construction footage, and some intriguing rumors, there’s plenty to talk about.

A New Monster Is Coming to Dark Universe

According to Universal Orlando, the upcoming roller coaster will be located next to Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, expanding the mysterious world of Darkmoor with another attraction inspired by Universal’s legendary monsters.

The coaster will feature an entirely new storyline connected to the Universal Monsters franchise. However, Universal hasn’t revealed which monsters will be involved or exactly what kind of adventure awaits guests.

For now, the biggest confirmed detail is that this will be an indoor thrill coaster.

Dark Universe currently features two major attractions: Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, an elaborate dark ride that brings guests face-to-face with several classic monsters, and Curse of the Werewolf, a spinning family coaster that takes guests through the wooded outskirts of Darkmoor.

Adding another attraction, especially an indoor roller coaster, could bring something entirely different to this already fascinating world.

And considering how much atmosphere Universal has created around Darkmoor, I’m certainly curious about what they’re planning behind those castle walls.

We Were Watching This Construction a Month Ago!

What’s especially interesting about this announcement is that I was already keeping an eye on this very area a month ago!

Back on October 5, I published an article titled “Something Is Stirring Behind Dark Universe at Epic Universe,” looking at aerial footage from bioreconstruct showing land clearing and heavy equipment working behind Darkmoor.

At the time, Universal hadn’t announced what was coming. There was plenty of speculation, but I wasn’t about to pretend that I knew exactly what they were building.

Instead, I shared a little construction watching mixed with my own Dark Universe wishlist.

And sitting right at the top of that wishlist?

Creature from the Black Lagoon!

In that earlier article, I imagined a fully immersive expedition into the Black Lagoon, complete with dense vegetation, dark caves, waterfalls, creepy encounters, and hopefully a massive Creature animatronic.

I even mentioned how an attraction combining different ride sensations and immersive environments, somewhat like the concept behind Dollywood’s NightFlight Expedition, could be an interesting direction for Universal.

Of course, my original idea leaned more toward an elaborate adventure attraction rather than a traditional indoor roller coaster. But now that Universal has confirmed a coaster is coming, I’m even more curious about what kind of storytelling and ride experience might be possible.

It’s pretty exciting to go from watching construction equipment move dirt around to having official confirmation that another major attraction is on the way.

And while we still don’t know which monster will be involved, I’m sticking with my original wishlist!

Which Universal Monster Could Be Next?

Now comes the fun part: speculation!

Universal hasn’t revealed the attraction’s name, storyline, or which legendary monster will take center stage. However, rumors have been floating around for a while, and some of them have certainly caught my attention.

Personally, I’m really hoping this new attraction will be inspired by Creature from the Black Lagoon!

Of all the classic Universal Monsters, the Creature feels like an incredible fit for an indoor roller coaster. Just imagine venturing deep into the mysterious Black Lagoon, surrounded by eerie waterways, dark caverns, and something lurking beneath the surface.

Universal could have a lot of fun combining thrilling coaster elements with immersive environments and unexpected monster encounters.

And from what I’ve been seeing, the rumors surrounding a possible Creature from the Black Lagoon attraction seem pretty convincing. Of course, that doesn’t make them official, but I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

However, something else recently caught my attention.

There’s also speculation that this mysterious new attraction could actually revolve around Bride of Frankenstein!

Interesting, right?

The Bride already has a presence within Dark Universe, and given how much Universal has invested in the Frankenstein storyline throughout Darkmoor, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her receive a larger role in a future attraction.

Could Universal be planning another terrifying experiment? Perhaps something involving the Bride herself? Or maybe an entirely different storyline waiting to be uncovered?

Between Creature from the Black Lagoon and Bride of Frankenstein, there are some fascinating possibilities for this new indoor coaster.

While I’m personally rooting for the Creature, I certainly wouldn’t complain about a Bride of Frankenstein attraction either.

And who says Universal couldn’t surprise us by featuring more than one monster?

For now, it’s all speculation until Universal officially reveals what’s coming. But that’s part of the excitement, isn’t it?

Something monstrous is coming to Dark Universe, and I’m eager to find out which creature will finally step out of the shadows.

Construction Is Already Underway

Interestingly, Universal isn’t just announcing plans for another attraction. The company has confirmed that construction is already underway.

And thanks to theme park aerial photographer bioreconstruct, we’ve already been getting some fascinating looks at the construction area behind Darkmoor.

In fact, his aerial footage played a big part in my original October 5 article, when we were still trying to figure out what Universal might be planning for that space.

A Look at the Site Before the Announcement

On October 24, bioreconstruct shared an aerial overview photographed on October 23, showing the construction site near Frankenstein Manor and Monsters Unchained.

At the time, Universal hadn’t officially confirmed what was being built, leaving fans to speculate about what might eventually occupy the area.

The aerial perspective provides an interesting look at how close the construction activity is to the existing Dark Universe attractions.

November 5: The Mystery Begins to Unfold

Fast-forward to November 5, when Universal finally confirmed that the project would become an all-new indoor thrill coaster.

Following the announcement, bioreconstruct shared additional aerial video footage of the construction site, giving fans another bird’s-eye view of the area where this mysterious attraction will eventually take shape.

It’s fascinating to look back at the earlier construction coverage and realize that the mystery we were watching a month ago is now officially becoming another roller coaster.

However, there’s still one very important detail missing: the opening date.

Universal hasn’t announced an official year for the attraction’s debut. Instead, the company says the coaster is planned to open sometime in the years ahead.

That means we shouldn’t automatically assume this is a 2027 addition, even with construction already underway.

Universal also hasn’t revealed the ride manufacturer, coaster layout, height, speed, or whether the attraction will feature launches, inversions, or other thrilling elements.

An indoor setting certainly provides exciting possibilities, particularly when it comes to combining immersive storytelling with physical coaster thrills.

I’m especially interested in seeing how Universal approaches the storytelling. Could we see elaborate themed environments, impressive practical effects, and a few unexpected monster encounters along the way?

Hopefully, Universal won’t keep us in the dark for too long.

Universal Orlando Has Plenty More on the Way

The Dark Universe announcement is only one piece of Universal Orlando’s growing lineup of new experiences.

Over at Universal Studios Florida, the reimagined Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse is part of the resort’s 2026 entertainment plans, bringing a new chapter to the park’s longtime horror entertainment offering.

Then there’s Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the high-speed roller coaster scheduled to open in 2027 at Universal Studios Florida.

Meanwhile, Universal Islands of Adventure is preparing to welcome a new signature full-service restaurant in Jurassic Park in 2027.

And over at Universal CityWalk, country music star Luke Combs will bring Category 10, a new music and entertainment venue currently planned for late 2027.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Universal isn’t slowing down after opening Epic Universe. Instead, the resort is continuing to invest in new attractions, entertainment, and experiences across its entire destination.

And with another roller coaster already under construction at Epic Universe, it makes you wonder what other surprises Universal might have planned for the years ahead.

Dark Universe Is Just Getting Started

One of the most exciting things about Epic Universe is knowing that its themed worlds have room to grow.

Dark Universe has already established a distinct identity through the village of Darkmoor, Frankenstein Manor, and its collection of familiar monsters. And with so many legendary characters in Universal’s horror library, there’s plenty of material available for future attractions.

An additional indoor roller coaster could make the world even more compelling, especially for guests looking for something beyond the existing attractions.

The biggest question now is exactly what kind of monster-themed adventure Universal has in mind.

Personally, I’m still cheering for Creature from the Black Lagoon.

A month ago, I was imagining an expedition through the Black Lagoon while watching construction footage of what was essentially an empty development site. Now, knowing that an indoor thrill coaster is officially coming makes that possibility even more exciting to think about.

But that Bride of Frankenstein possibility? That’s definitely something worth keeping an eye on, too.

Whether we venture into the Black Lagoon, encounter another experiment gone horribly wrong, or discover something completely unexpected, I’m excited to see how Universal continues expanding this world.

Whatever Universal is planning, one thing is certain: Dark Universe isn’t finished unleashing its monsters just yet.

And I can’t wait to find out what’s lurking next.
