It’s laughter they’re after, and Disney is making sure we all get in on the fun! A brand-new land inspired by Pixar Animation Studios’ Monsters, Inc. is coming to life at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort. That’s right—soon, you’ll be able to step into Monstropolis and experience the monster world like never before!
The exciting news was revealed at Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro, joined by Disney Legend Billy Crystal (the voice of Mike Wazowski), shared plans for this immersive new area where guests can walk alongside their favorite monsters, explore the city, and, of course, laugh their way through the experience!
A Doorway to Monstropolis
Set after the events of the beloved 2001 film, this new Monsters, Inc. land invites humans to visit the monsters’ world—where laughter is now the key to keeping the city powered. One of the most exciting aspects? The chance to explore Monsters, Inc. itself!
You’ll be able to step inside the famous factory, hear the giggles, and even zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski—via a door! And if you’ve been dreaming of riding through the door vault since watching the movie, your wish is about to come true.
Disney’s First Suspended Coaster
Hold onto your hard hats, because this land will feature Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster! Inspired by the film’s iconic door chase scene, the ride will have guests soaring through the factory as giant mechanical claws grab and transport doors in all directions. Josh D’Amaro even shared his excitement: “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley.” Now, we finally can!
This thrilling new attraction will put guests right in the middle of the action—just be sure to have your paperwork in order, because Roz is always watching…
When Can We Visit?
While an official opening date hasn’t been announced yet, construction on Monsters, Inc. Land is set to begin next year. So, start practicing your best monster roars and get ready to experience the laughter-powered world of Monstropolis!
