Walt Disney World has officially unveiled a major new attraction coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026 — and it’s a love letter to Disney Animation like never before.

Set to replace Star Wars: Launch Bay, the upcoming experience, The Magic of Disney Animation, will transform the Animation Courtyard into a vibrant and playful destination where guests can step inside the whimsical world of animation. Inspired by the Emmy Award-winning short film Once Upon A Studio, this brand-new experience invites families to engage with the magic behind the scenes and the characters who make it all come alive.

Rediscovering Animation – With a Touch of Pixie Dust

At the heart of the reimagined space will be a stunning tribute to the real-life Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California — complete with Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat perched atop the building, casting enchantment over the experience. Guests will enter a world where animators have briefly stepped out… but the characters remain, and they’re ready to welcome you in.

Inside The Magic of Disney Animation, visitors will explore charming studio departments taken over by animated favorites. Expect moving portraits, storytelling surprises, and whimsical encounters around every corner. You’ll even have the chance to pick up a pencil and learn to sketch your very own character creation.

For little ones, the all-new “Drawn to Wonderland” play area promises an indoor garden of delights. Inspired by Mary Blair’s concept art for Alice in Wonderland, the playground features a Mad Tea Party playset, an oversized flower garden, and a Tulgey Wood exploration zone — all designed to spark imagination and curiosity.

Characters, Creativity, and Plenty of Play

Whether you’re meeting characters, enjoying interactive exhibits, or simply letting loose in the play areas, the entire space is designed to celebrate Disney Animation in all its forms. From sketch sessions to short films with a twist, every moment is crafted to be hands-on, heartwarming, and full of surprises.

A Studio Lot Transformation

The experience doesn’t end at the building’s doors. The surrounding courtyard is also receiving a full reimagining into The Walt Disney Studios — inspired by the legendary Disney Studios Lot in Burbank. This includes updated façades, lush gardens, and new places to sit, snack, and soak in the atmosphere.

“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” will remain a featured attraction in the Studio Theater, while a new Disney Jr. show will debut at the adjacent soundstage. Expect interactive entertainment for younger guests, adding another layer of excitement for families with small children.

Mark Your Calendar

To make way for this magical transformation, Animation Courtyard and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will officially close on September 25, 2025. However, guests can still experience The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents during the transition period.

This new attraction marks a return to Disney’s animation roots — a perfect fit for Hollywood Studios and a bold step toward blending nostalgia, innovation, and family fun. Whether you’re a longtime fan of classic characters or ready to sketch your first creation, The Magic of Disney Animation is shaping up to be one of the park’s most anticipated additions in years.

And if you haven’t already, catch the inspiration for this enchanting new experience — Once Upon a Studio — now streaming on Disney+.

Stay tuned for more updates as we follow the journey to 2026 and the unveiling of this animated wonderland.
