Introduction

We’re back at it again! Game of Thrones Season 2 wastes no time re-immersing us in the cold, cruel world of Westeros — where alliances shift like sand and every throne-seeker is sharpening their blades. The North Remembers, the first episode of the season, picks up just a few months after the brutal events of Season 1, and already the stakes are higher.

I’ll admit, not having Ned Stark or Khal Drogo around stings. They were my two favorite characters last season, and it still doesn’t feel real. But now, my hopes are riding on Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister — two players who seem poised to take the spotlight in a big way.

Let’s dive into all the key moments from this intense and politically charged episode.

King Joffrey Rules with Cruelty

The episode opens in King’s Landing with King Joffrey reveling in his new power. In true Joffrey fashion, he marks his “nameday” with a sadistic tournament and brutal punishment for anyone who crosses him. His behavior has only worsened since taking the throne, and we see Sansa struggling to navigate her dangerous position as his betrothed.

It’s hard to watch, honestly. The way Joffrey wields his power is terrifying — not because he’s smart, but because he’s impulsive and unstable. His unchecked cruelty sets the tone for the power struggles to come.

Tyrion Becomes Hand of the King

One of my favorite parts of this episode was seeing Tyrion roll into the Small Council chamber like he owned the place. Appointed by his father, Tywin Lannister, as acting Hand of the King, Tyrion immediately starts cleaning up the mess Joffrey and Cersei have made.

Tyrion’s sharp wit and political instincts are a refreshing change of pace. He’s not just clever — he’s got a real sense of justice buried beneath the sarcasm. I’m genuinely excited to see how he plays the game now that he has real influence. If anyone can survive the madness of court politics, it’s Tyrion.

Robb Stark Declares the North’s Independence

Meanwhile in the North, Robb Stark is taking charge. After defeating Jaime Lannister in battle, he sends peace terms to King’s Landing — but it’s clear he doesn’t expect them to be accepted. He’s already being hailed as the King in the North, and his banner men are ready to fight.

The scenes with Robb and Jaime are intense, especially as Robb tries to balance the duties of war with his family’s honor. One of the more chilling moments was when he unleashed his direwolf on Jaime, a reminder that the Starks are not to be underestimated.

Daenerys Targaryen and Her Dragons

Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys is wandering the Red Waste with her few loyal followers — and three newly hatched dragons. This part of the episode felt more like a quiet buildup, but you can sense something powerful simmering beneath the surface.

The dragons are small, but their presence changes everything. Daenerys is no longer just a displaced royal — she’s a queen with creatures of legend at her side. Her storyline looks to be a slow burn this season, but I’m here for it. She’s still finding her strength, but when she does, Westeros better watch out.

The Rise of Stannis Baratheon

We’re also introduced to a new power player — Stannis Baratheon, older brother of the late King Robert. Stannis claims the throne is rightfully his, and he’s got the backing of a mysterious red priestess named Melisandre. She burns statues of the Seven Gods in a fiery show of force, marking a dark and mystical turn in the series.

Stannis seems rigid and cold, but Melisandre’s presence gives his arc an eerie, supernatural edge. There’s something unsettling about her calm demeanor and cryptic prophecies. I don’t fully trust them — but I’m definitely intrigued.

Final Thoughts

The North Remembers kicks off Season 2 with a bang, showing us just how fractured and dangerous Westeros has become after the death of King Robert and the execution of Ned Stark. Every kingdom is moving toward war, and the shifting loyalties are already making things unpredictable.

Daenerys’s struggle in the Red Waste has me curious about how she’ll survive and grow stronger. And Tyrion stepping into his new role as Hand of the King is one of the most exciting parts of this season so far — he’s sharp, witty, and finally in a place where he can play the game on his terms.

Coming Up Next: Game of Thrones Episode 2

Next time, in The Night Lands, we’ll follow Arya on the road as she tries to keep her true identity secret, Jon discovers unsettling truths beyond the Wall, and Theon wrestles with where his loyalties really lie. Meanwhile, King’s Landing continues to boil under Joffrey’s cruelty — and the signs of war are only getting stronger.
