Dollywood’s Biggest Attraction Ever
NightFlight Expedition isn’t just another ride—it’s Dollywood’s boldest project to date. Designed in partnership with Herschend Creative Studios and the innovative team at Mack Rides, this attraction combines a custom amphibious ride system, stunning projection mapping, lighting effects, and a dynamic soundtrack to transport guests deep into the Smoky Mountains after dark.
The ride lasts a whopping 5 ½ minutes and takes explorers on a bioluminescent nighttime journey that blends:
- A soaring flight over the Smokies.
- A wild whitewater rafting run powered by 500,000 gallons of water.
- A thrilling coaster segment that climbs and dips along a mountain ridge.
- A tranquil boat voyage across a glowing secret lake.
All of this happens inside a massive 44,000 sq. ft. climate-controlled building, meaning guests can enjoy it rain or shine, no matter what Tennessee weather has planned.
Dolly’s Touch of Mountain Magic
Although Dolly Parton couldn’t be there in person for the announcement, she shared her excitement in a heartfelt video message. And in true Dolly fashion, she tied it all back to the beauty of the Smokies:
“A lot of people ask me about my favorite season in the Smokies, but no one ever asks me what my favorite time of day is,” she said. “Our new ride sends you out into the mountains at night, which is the time that I think they really come to life. It’s pure mountain magic.”

Meet the Oakley Twins
As with all Wildwood Grove attractions, NightFlight Expedition has its own rich backstory. Adventurers will join Cora and Jasper Oakley, twin scientists (and relatives of longtime Grove explorer Ned Oakley), who’ve invented a device called the Bioluminator. Their mission? To track down the fabled Secret Lake, the glowing water source that powers the Wildwood Tree’s magical canopy. Guests board the twins’ amphibious aircraft and set out on an expedition where science meets wonder.

Dollywood President Eugene Naughton described NightFlight Expedition as “truly exceptional” and believes it will raise the bar not just for Dollywood, but for the entire theme park industry. NightFlight Expedition is scheduled to open in Spring 2026. Current Dollywood 2025 passholders have the earliest chance ever to lock in 2026 passes and will even get a sneak preview of the ride before it opens to the public. Non-passholders can pre-register now for season pass sales starting later this fall.
Dollywood is already in the middle of its 40th Anniversary season, with the Harvest Festival in full swing and Smoky Mountain Christmas right around the corner. But it’s safe to say all eyes are already on 2026.
