Universal Studios Hollywood is turning up the adrenaline with a major announcement that’s sure to thrill fans of high-speed action. Debuting in 2026, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be the fastest roller coaster in Universal Destinations & Experiences’ global portfolio, clocking in at a breathtaking 72 miles per hour. Announced officially on June 12, 2025, the upcoming attraction promises to bring the energy and spectacle of the Fast & Furious franchise to life in an outdoor roller coaster unlike anything the park has done before.
The new coaster, currently under construction, will span 4,100 feet of track and feature an innovative ride system with fully rotational vehicles. These vehicles are engineered to simulate the signature drifting sensation from the films, rotating 360 degrees as they race along an aerial track that snakes above Universal Studios Hollywood—including over the park’s famous multi-level escalators that connect the Upper and Lower Lots.
“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be a powerful game changer for Universal Studios Hollywood,” said Scott Strobl, Executive Vice President & General Manager. “This ride will transform the topography of our destination and infuse a new level of adrenaline into our park.”
The ride will be located on the Upper Lot and will begin in a massive garage-themed queue. Guests will board one of four themed ride vehicles, including a car modeled after Dominic Toretto’s iconic 1970 Dodge Charger—already on display at the park for a limited time.
Universal has also shared a first look at the coaster’s concept art and an animatic video preview, which gives fans a glimpse into the scale and immersion of this attraction. The use of sound-reduction technology aims to maintain ride intensity while minimizing park-wide disruption, an engineering challenge that Universal’s design team has embraced head-on.
When it opens in 2026, Hollywood Drift will join a stellar lineup of attractions that includes SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™, Jurassic World – The Ride, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, and Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride, further cementing Universal Studios Hollywood as a premier destination for thrill-seekers.
With the Fast & Furious film saga having earned more than $7 billion globally and with an enormous fanbase across media platforms, this high-octane ride is set to be a flagship experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Stay tuned for more construction updates and coverage as Universal Studios Hollywood gears up to launch its most furious thrill ride yet in 2026.
