Halloween Horror Nights is bringing one of gaming’s biggest Halloween celebrations into the real world.

Universal has officially announced Fortnitemares as the newest scare zone coming to Halloween Horror Nights 2026, giving fans the chance to step inside the spooky world of Fortnite’s annual Halloween event. The announcement marks the fourth scare zone revealed for Universal Orlando and the first scare zone announced for Universal Studios Hollywood, making it another exciting addition for fans on both coasts.

For longtime Fortnite players, Fortnitemares has become one of the most anticipated seasonal events each year. Now, instead of experiencing it through a controller, guests will be able to walk directly into the action.

Welcome to Freaky Fields

According to Universal, guests will “drop in” to Freaky Fields, a Halloween-inspired battlefield that has been overtaken by a mysterious and threatening force. As visitors make their way through the scare zone, they’ll encounter familiar locations, recognizable Fortnitemares characters and several all-new creations developed exclusively for Halloween Horror Nights.

One of the biggest highlights is the arrival of the Battle Bus, one of Fortnite’s most iconic symbols. Seeing it parked inside the streets of Universal is sure to become one of this year’s most photographed locations, especially for longtime fans of the game.

Universal also promises an ever-changing environment filled with high-stakes encounters, making the scare zone feel like guests have been dropped directly into one of Fortnite’s Halloween matches.

Bringing a Gaming Favorite to Life

Fortnite continues to be one of the biggest video games in the world, constantly evolving through new seasons, collaborations and limited-time events. Every fall, Fortnitemares transforms the game with horror-themed gameplay, spooky locations and original monsters that have become a tradition for millions of players.

That’s what makes this announcement particularly interesting.

Rather than adapting Fortnite as a whole, Universal is focusing specifically on Fortnitemares, allowing the scare zone to lean into the game’s darker atmosphere while still celebrating the colorful style that makes Fortnite instantly recognizable.

A Great Fit for the Streets

I’m also curious to see what exclusive creatures Universal has designed specifically for the event, since those could become some of the most memorable additions to the scare zone.

Even if you aren’t a regular Fortnite player, the colorful visuals and interactive atmosphere have the potential to make this one of the more energetic experiences at HHN this year.

New Merchandise Available

Alongside the announcement, Universal also revealed a new line of Fortnitemares merchandise. Fans can pick up a graphic T-shirt, decal set and an acrylic collectible inspired by the scare zone at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.

The collection will also become available through ShopUniversal.com beginning Thursday, July 23 at 9:00 a.m. PST, giving fans who can’t make it to the parks an opportunity to add some Fortnitemares merchandise to their collection before the event begins.

The Scare Zone Lineup Continues to Grow

With Infernal Carnival of Nightmares, Sideshow of Decay, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and now Fortnitemares, Halloween Horror Nights 2026 is assembling a diverse lineup of scare zones that blends original concepts with fan-favorite intellectual properties.

I’m especially interested to see how Universal recreates Freaky Fields and incorporates the Battle Bus into the streets. While I’m not the biggest Fortnite player, I appreciate that Universal chose to focus on the game’s Halloween celebration instead of simply adapting the game itself. It feels like a much more natural fit for Halloween Horror Nights and could end up surprising a lot of guests.

With more scare zones, haunted houses and entertainment still waiting to be announced, HHN 2026 continues to build an impressive event on both coasts.
